“Kaduna Residents Cut Meals Amid Rising Food Costs”
Rising inflation and persistent increases in food prices have forced many residents of Kaduna State to reduce their meal intake, with families now struggling to provide the traditional three square meals.
In interviews with newsmen, some residents lamented the harsh economic conditions that have impacted their ability to maintain regular feeding routines.
Fatima Idris, a housewife, shared that her family has been forced to cut down to just two meals per day. “My husband, who earns less than N100,000 monthly, can no longer afford the food staples we used to buy like rice, beans, noodles, and spaghetti. Now, we only manage with breakfast and dinner,” she explained. “We can’t even offer food to visitors anymore.”
Similarly, Muhammed Bello, another resident, has resorted to fasting to cope with the rising cost of food. “I fast for two days at a time to save money and also gain spiritual reward,” he said. “I drink water and eat dates in the morning, and then break my fast in the evening with a balanced meal.”
Adamu Mairiga, a civil servant, spoke about the difficult sacrifices he makes to ensure his family eats, though luxuries like meat and fish are now off the table. “I provide them with eggs once a month, but with school fees, rent, and food costs all rising, we’re just surviving by God’s grace,” he said.
The growing economic pressure has left many families in Kaduna struggling to adjust, as basic necessities become increasingly out of reach.
