The Kano State Police Command has rescued a man from an angry mob following an alleged blasphemy incident at a hotel in the Badawa area of Kano metropolis.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on December 21 at Sarina Hotel, Badawa Quarters, according to security sources.

Sources said police received a distress call indicating that three men — Musa Tasiu, Awwal Ibrahim and Soja Snu, all residents of Dorayi Quarters — had visited the hotel to smoke shisha.

It was alleged that one of them, identified as Musa Tasiu, entered the hotel’s mosque, damaged a glass door, picked up a copy of the Holy Qur’an and tore it, triggering outrage among people within the premises.

Following the incident, a large crowd reportedly mobilised, and the suspect was close to being lynched before police intervention.

A patrol team attached to the division promptly responded to the alert, rescued the suspect and restored calm in the area.

Police sources said the situation has since been brought under control, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
