The Katsina State Government has condemned the recent ambush carried out by suspected bandits, stating that the attack could have resulted in a far more devastating outcome for the affected community.

In an official statement, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening security operations across the state. He pledged continued collaboration with the military, police, and other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks terrorizing local communities.

Danmusa extended the government’s deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a swift recovery.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity or useful information to security agencies in support of ongoing operations.

According to the statement, shortly after a recent attack, injured victims were being evacuated for medical attention when their convoy was ambushed by the same group of assailants, who had strategically split into smaller units. During a heavy exchange of gunfire, the Community Watch Corps (CWC) engaged the attackers, successfully escaped the ambush, but lost a vehicle that was set ablaze by the bandits.

Preliminary investigations suggest the ambush was a retaliatory move by the criminal gang, seeking revenge for the loss of several of their members during an earlier confrontation with the CWC in Magaji Wando community.

“The bravery and quick response of the Community Watch Corps under extremely dangerous conditions is commendable,” the statement noted. “The Katsina State Government, through the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, deeply appreciates their sacrifice in protecting vulnerable communities.”

Danmusa reaffirmed the government’s resolve to intensify its crackdown on armed groups and restore peace across Katsina.

“Together with the courage of our security forces and the resilience of our people, we will defeat these enemies of peace and restore lasting security across Katsina State,” the statement concluded.
