Kcee Addresses Rift With Flavour, Says He Entered Music Earlier
Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has broken his silence on the long-rumoured feud between him and fellow highlife star Flavour, shedding light on how the tension began and why he bears no ill feelings.
Speaking on the issue, Kcee traced the roots of the disagreement to their first professional interaction years ago, when Flavour was still an aspiring artiste. He revealed that he once had the opportunity to sign Flavour but declined, a decision that has often been misinterpreted as a personal grudge.
The Limpopo crooner stressed that he has never harboured resentment toward Flavour, noting that his choice at the time was purely business-related and not driven by envy or malice. Kcee added that he ventured into music before Flavour and has earned his place in the industry through years of hard work and consistency.
The conversation gained renewed attention following a social media exchange in 2024, when Flavour criticised an unnamed artiste for allegedly copying his musical style. Although no names were mentioned, Kcee reacted by cautioning against attempts to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, sparking speculation of an underlying feud.
Reflecting on the controversy, Kcee emphasised the importance of humility and mutual respect among artistes. He also spoke about being underrated at different stages of his career, saying time has ultimately proven his critics wrong.
According to the singer, there is room for everyone to succeed, especially within the rich space of Igbo and highlife music, which he believes should be preserved, not policed.
