Kcee Urges Musicians to Support Nollywood, Reveals Free Use of Hit Song in Film

Nigerian singer Kcee has called on his fellow musicians to extend greater support to Nollywood, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between the music and film industries.

In a recent interview, Kcee recounted an experience where a filmmaker requested to use his popular gospel track Cultural Praise in a movie. Rather than charging a fee, he granted permission free of charge.

“A lady reached out recently, saying she wanted to use Cultural Praise in her movie and asked how much it would cost. I told her to go ahead and use it for free—she can testify. That’s the kind of support we should give,” he said.

Kcee noted that while musicians often feature actors in their music videos, reciprocal support from the music industry for Nollywood projects remains limited.

“We always want to have movie stars in our music videos. Some musicians have even featured in their movies. But I think we can do more,” he said.

He added that musicians could help promote Nigerian films by sharing them on their social media platforms. “Currently, I’m also not doing that, but we need to. Randomly, you see actors jumping on our projects, and it wouldn’t be a crime if we do the same,” he stated.

Kcee’s comments come amid ongoing conversations about strengthening synergy between Nigeria’s creative sectors, especially as both music and film continue to enjoy global attention.
