The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), Aliero, Kebbi, on Saturday, conferred an honourary doctorate degree on Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
This is contained in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris in Gusau on Saturday.
He said the honourary doctorate degree was conferred on Gov. Lawal during the university’s joint maiden convocation at the University Convocation Arena in Aliero, Kebbi.
Idris said that the maiden convocation commenced on Wednesday with a press briefing by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Danshehu Gwandangaji.
The spokesperson said: “On Saturday, Governor Dauda Lawal was conferred with an Honourary Doctorate Degree by the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology.
“The university said the honour reflects its commitment to recognising individuals whose work had meaningful and lasting impact on society.
“The Kebbi Varsity conferred on Gov. Lawal the Degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc) Honoris Causa in recognition of his distinguished service and contributions to societal development.
“The Senate highlighted Gov. Lawal’s achievements in education, health, infrastructure, economy, and workers’ welfare as major reasons for the honour.
“Such recognition will make the governor put more effort into his resolve to make Zamfara greater.”
Earlier, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gwandangaji disclosed that the university founded in 2005, had so far, graduated 7,221 undergraduate students.
According to him, no fewer than 669 postgraduate students also graduated between the 2010/2011 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.
The vice-chancellor commended stakeholders and the university community for their various support towards the smooth running of the institution.
