Tragedy struck Kagoga village in Homa Bay County, Kenya, after a police officer, David Okebe, allegedly k!lled his two children and a nephew before taking his own life following a domestic dispute with his wife.

Okebe, who was attached to the Marsabit Police Station, reportedly took his own life on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at his home in Kakdhimu East Location, Rachuonyo West Sub-county.

The victims included his six-year-old son, his five-year-old daughter, and his in-law’s five-year-old son. Authorities suspect he poisoned the children before hanging himself.

According to Homa Bay County Police Commander, Lawrence Koilem, the officer had taken days off work and went to his wife’s parents’ home to retrieve the children after a fallout led her to leave their matrimonial home. He returned home with the three children.

Neighbors later discovered the four bodies inside the house. The officer’s son and daughter were found lifeless on a bed, while his nephew’s body was discovered in a chair in the sitting room.

“There were no visible injuries on the children, but foam was found around their mouths, indicating possible poisoning,” Koilem said.

A suicide note was found at the scene, in which the officer blamed his wife and in-laws for his actions.

Koilem urged families to actively help resolve marital issues and encouraged residents to seek professional counselling in times of emotional distress.

The bodies have been transferred to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.
