King Charles strips Prince Andrew of royal title, orders him to leave Royal Lodge
Britain’s Prince Andrew has been formally stripped of his royal title and ordered to vacate his residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday, October 30.
The move comes amid renewed scrutiny over Andrew’s past ties to the late s£x offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said King Charles had “initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles, and Honours” of his younger brother.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” the statement read — marking a further step from earlier restrictions that saw him lose his title as Duke of York.
The palace added that the measures were “deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” and expressed sympathy for “victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
As part of the decision, the palace confirmed that Andrew has received a formal notice to vacate his 30-room mansion at Royal Lodge, which he has occupied under a long-term lease agreement with the Crown Estate. Reports recently revealed that he was paying “one peppercorn (if demanded) per annum” in rent, despite stepping back from public duties six years ago.
“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation,” the palace said, noting that he will relocate to a property on the royal family’s Sandringham estate. His daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will retain their royal titles.
Prince Andrew reiterated his denial of all allegations two weeks ago, stating that the accusations “distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”
The controversy surrounding Andrew has deepened following the posthumous publication of a memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre — an Epstein survivor who accused him of s£xual assault when she was 17. Andrew reached a confidential settlement with Giuffre in 2022 but continues to deny any wrongdoing or that he ever met her.
