King Sunny Ade Clarifies Relationship Rumors with Onyeka Onwenu
Veteran Nigerian juju music icon, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), has addressed longstanding rumors of a romantic relationship with the late singer Onyeka Onwenu. During a condolence visit to Onwenu’s family, KSA explained why he never responded to the speculations.
In a candid statement, King Sunny Ade revealed that the rumors were part of a marketing strategy designed to promote their hit song, “Wait for Me.” “That was a gimmick we did,” he admitted. “It was purely for the music. People often mistook her for my girlfriend, but she never said yes or no to me.”
Reflecting on his professional relationship with Onwenu, KSA praised her as an exceptional woman who provided invaluable guidance and support throughout their collaboration. “She was always willing to sit down with you and offer advice,” he recalled. “And her advice was always top-notch.”
