The Kwara State Television Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara Council, has elected an all-women executive to pilot the affairs of the chapel for the next three years.
The Kwara NUJ Chairman, Abdullateef Ahmed, swore-in the six contestants who were unopposed at the election on Friday in Ilorin.
Busayo Aweda emerged as the chairman; Ganiyat Adedeji clinched the vice-chairman position, while Muslimah Abubakar emerged as the secretary.
Fatima Mohammed was elected as the assistant secretary; Nusirat Popoola emerged as the financial secretary, while Aminat Sadiku-Yunus was elected as treasurer.
Ahmed congratulated the new executives and urged them to familiarise themselves with the constitution of the union.
According to him, the new positions are a challenge to the new leadership, with the way the new media has put the conventional journalists on their toes.
“Home-made media in the state should key into what is obtainable in the media in the 21st century, by being technology-inclined.
“We have a responsibility to ensure that we move with the trend, so as not to be left behind,” he said.
Also, the General Manager (GM) of Kwara TV, Malam Ayobami Akanbi, charged the present leadership to continue with the panache with which the union had been run since assumption of office.
Akanbi added that the station was 100 per cent compliant with the affirmation for women in positions with the new executives.
He charged the new executives to work towards raising the capabilities of their members to enhance their career.
The GM also urged them to seek the partnership of the NUJ in training and re-training of its members.
Meanwhile, Aweda, the new chairperson of Kwara TV Chapel, expressed commitment to the development of the station and members welfare.
The chairperson said the leadership would build on the foundation already laid by the predecessors.
She promised a partnership with the management of the station to hold trainings, seminars and workshops to enhance productivity of the members.
