Abayomi Arabambi, a member of the Labour Party and Factional National Publicity Secretary, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently reshuffle his cabinet to better serve the interests of Nigerians.
Speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday, Arabambi expressed concern that several political appointees and public office-holders are not doing enough to improve the lives of citizens, despite Tinubu’s efforts to revitalize the economy.
Arabambi described many of the current cabinet members as “square pegs in round holes” and urged the President to prioritize competence over party affiliation when appointing officials. He warned that Nigeria’s economy is struggling, citing the current exchange rates of ₦1,652 per U.S. dollar, ₦2,010 per British pound, and ₦1,985 per euro.
“Our country groans under the weight of excessive imports and a depreciating currency, rendering almost all sectors ineffective,” he said, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Arabambi also urged Tinubu to address the country’s power supply issues, pointing out that despite over $20 billion in investments, Nigeria still suffers from an unreliable power supply. He recommended that the President revoke operational certificates and licenses of some electricity distribution companies and encourage state governments and private enterprises to take over.
“The President must urgently withdraw the certificates and licenses of underperforming distribution companies. This move would pave the way for a more prosperous nation and reduce the cost of goods and services,” he added.
Arabambi concluded by emphasizing the need for President Tinubu to dismiss incompetent ministers and agency heads to establish a more effective government, warning that those seeking to destabilize Nigeria’s economy may exploit the current situation if immediate action is not taken.
