Lagos Police Arrest Five Over Sale of Two-Week-Old Baby
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals for allegedly abducting and trafficking a newborn baby, following a detailed investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The case was initially reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a man concerned about the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old pregnant cousin, identified as Miss Happiness. The teenager was said to have become pregnant by an unidentified individual.
Due to financial hardship, the complainant’s mother had temporarily entrusted Happiness to one Nonye Osi for care. However, Osi allegedly colluded with others to move the girl to an undisclosed location.
When she was later found, her baby was missing. The disturbing development prompted the transfer of the case to SCID for a deeper investigation.
Police detectives uncovered that the newborn had been sold for N3 million. The suspects arrested in connection with the crime include Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.
The two-week-old baby was eventually traced to Agemuwo in the Badagry area and rescued in good health. The child is currently in the custody of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, receiving care ahead of being reunited with his mother.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting all residents and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring all involved in the crime to justice.
