Lagos Unveils Eko Flavours Culinary Project for Youths
The Lagos State Government has launched the Eko Flavours project, aimed at showcasing the state as Nigeria’s culinary melting pot and engaging the youth.
At a press conference on Friday, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, Ms. Abiola Olusanya, highlighted the project’s focus on testing the culinary skills of young chefs, culinary students, and local food vendors. This initiative provides a platform for celebrating diverse food cultures.
Olusanya explained that the Eko Flavours project, designed to engage youths and students during holidays, seeks to highlight Lagos as a transformative state in the food experience sector. “We want to engage young culinary enthusiasts and food lovers and showcase Lagos as a hub for food culture and production logistics,” she said.
The project, which will become an annual event, will support registered chefs with a voucher of 200,000 Naira to purchase food items for the competition. The top three contestants will receive significant cash prizes: 5 million Naira for the winner, 3 million Naira for the second place, and 1 million Naira for the third place.
Representatives from the Project Management Agency, Mrs. Olufunke Adu and Mrs. Jennifer Odufuwa, stated that 50 chefs would be selected for the competition based on their social media engagement. From these, 20 semi-finalists will be chosen, with the top three emerging as winners.
The competition aims to encourage unity among the various ethnic groups in Lagos through their unique cooking skills and dishes. Applicants must have a Lagos State Residents Registration Agency card to participate.
