The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced that it has responded to a total of 8,585 emergency incidents across the state since 2019.
The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
“In line with its statutory duties to Respond, Rescue, Recover and ensure Disaster Risk Reduction, LASEMA has attended to 8,585 incidents under the leadership of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration from 2019 to date,” he stated.
He revealed that between January 1, 2024, and April 2025, the agency responded to 2,143 incidents — comprising 1,675 cases in 2024 and 468 cases between January and April 2025.
“These figures illustrate the agency’s commitment to promptly addressing emergencies and ensuring public safety in Lagos State and its environs,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of the agency’s activity on April 25 alone, Oke-Osanyintolu noted that LASEMA handled 121 emergency cases on that day.
“The road accident category accounted for 40 cases, fire disaster category accounted for 25 cases, truck tanker category accounted for 22 cases,” he said.
“The medical category accounted for 13 cases, with other events consisting of windstorm, powerline, public complaint, assault and water well incident recorded 12 cases, with the building collapse category recording six cases, while the explosion category recorded two cases in the period under review,” he added.
On local government trends for the month under review, he identified Alimosho and Kosofe as having the highest number of incidents, with 16 cases each.
“Eti-Osa and Ikeja Local Government Areas ranked third and fourth places with 13 cases each, followed by Mushin Local Government with nine cases just as Lagos Island and Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Areas ranked sixth, seventh and eighth with eight cases each among others,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the data reinforced LASEMA’s resolve to respond swiftly and effectively to all emergencies and safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
