An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Jimoh Abdulquadri, has called on parents to pay closer attention to their children’s dressing habits as part of efforts to curb indecent dressing in society.

Abdulquadri made the call during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Ilorin.

He expressed concern over what he described as the growing trend of parents allowing their children to wear whatever they choose without proper guidance.

According to the lawyer, although children may have personal fashion preferences, parents still have the responsibility to guide and correct them when necessary.

“Indecent dressing in our society is gradually becoming the norm and must be discouraged,” he said.

He urged parents to begin addressing the issue from their homes by discouraging indecent dressing among their children.

Abdulquadri noted that the moral standard in society had been partly eroded by the increasing trend of revealing fashion among young people.

He also advised parents to avoid purchasing transparent or revealing clothing for their children under the guise of showing love or granting them freedom of choice.

The legal practitioner further urged parents to discourage their children from wearing revealing outfits in public places.

He emphasised the need for parents to teach their children the importance of modest and decent dressing, stressing that exposing one’s body in public does not enhance social acceptance.

According to him, dressing half-naked does not project a positive image but may instead reflect a lack of proper upbringing and home training.
