Lightning Strike at Uganda Refugee Camp Claims 14 Lives, Including 13 Children

A tragic lightning strike at Palabek Refugee Settlement in north-western Uganda has left 14 people dead, including 13 children and one adult, according to local police.

The victims were attending a church service on Saturday evening when the lightning hit, resulting in the deaths and injuring 34 others.

The area has recently experienced heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, contributing to the devastating incident.

Kituuma Rusoke, the spokesperson for Uganda Police, confirmed the death of a 21-year-old adult among the victims but did not specify the ages of the children who lost their lives.

Palabek refugee camp is home to over 80,000 people, many of whom have been affected by the harsh weather conditions. Emergency responders continue to support those injured and affected by the tragedy.
