A Nigerian theatre practitioner and Editor-in-Chief of OurNigeria News Magazine, Om’Oba Jerry Adesewo, has been commended for his literary contribution following the public presentation of his two new books, The Years of ME and The Weight of Becoming.

Literary scholar and reviewer Oko Owoicho said the works reflect deep personal experiences and philosophical reflections about life, growth and the inevitability of failure.

Reviewing The Years of ME, Owoicho described the book as a reflective narrative that explores the philosophy of values while reminding readers that failure is an unavoidable part of life’s journey.

According to him, one of the most striking elements of the work is the author’s openness about confronting failure during his journey as a journalist, thespian and theatre administrator.

“The book honestly acknowledges that there is a point where one encounters failure in life. That honesty makes the story powerful and relatable, especially for younger generations,” he said.

Owoicho also described The Weight of Becoming, a poetry collection, as a reflective work that emphasises the importance of the journey of life, noting that the poems deliver strong messages without sounding overly preachy.

At the event, the chairman of the occasion, Jerry Alagbaoso, represented by former president of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Denja Abdullahi, described Adesewo as a resourceful professional with experience in journalism, theatre and the creative arts.

He noted that the author’s ability to combine his experiences across different creative fields has enriched his writing and contribution to Nigeria’s literary landscape.

Speaking with journalists, Adesewo said the books were inspired by his love for writing and the desire to share his life story with others.

He revealed that the ideas behind the publications began about 13 years ago as he reflected on his personal journey, including both successes and failures.

“The version of me today is different from the version of me years ago,” he said.

Adesewo also announced plans to donate 10 copies of each book to 50 schools across the Federal Capital Territory to promote reading culture among students.

Dignitaries at the event included the founder of Baze University and former senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, alongside other guests from the diplomatic, literary and academic communities.
