Liverpool Edge Newcastle in Fiery Clash as Slot Criticises Magpies’ Style
Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has criticised Newcastle United’s approach to their Premier League meeting on Monday night, despite watching his side emerge 3-2 winners at St James’ Park.
The champions surrendered a two-goal advantage after strikes from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike put them in control of a fiercely contested match. Newcastle hit back through Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula to draw level, before Rio Ngumoha netted a dramatic late winner to secure all three points for the Reds.
Reflecting on the contest, Slot told Sky Sports: “I’m not too sure if I saw a football match today. It was set-piece after set-piece, long throw.
“It didn’t have a lot to do with tactics, what I said before the game, but I liked a lot how we stood strong.
“Very difficult first half hour, 45 minutes, but we didn’t collapse at all, we stood strong.”
