Lufthansa Extends Flight Suspension to the Middle East Amid Rising Tensions
The Lufthansa Group has announced an extension of its flight suspensions to the Middle East for an additional week, citing security concerns due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
The suspension, which affects flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman, and Erbil, will now remain in place until August 21.
In a statement released on Monday, the company confirmed that all of its airlines, including Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings, as well as both cargo and passenger flights, will be impacted. Additionally, Lufthansa will continue to avoid using the airspace over Iraq and Iran.
The decision extends a previous suspension that was set to end on Tuesday. Lufthansa is offering passengers with tickets valid until August 31 free cancellations, as the group prioritizes passenger safety amid concerns that the ongoing conflict could spread beyond the Gaza Strip.
