French President Emmanuel Macron will meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday to discuss Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The meeting coincides with the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion and follows Trump’s recent claim—widely disputed—that Ukraine started the war. It also comes after Trump’s 90-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place without Ukrainian or European participation.
Last week, Macron convened European leaders in Paris for crisis talks before speaking with Trump by phone. Their discussions included the possibility of European peacekeeping forces to secure a ceasefire.
Trump is also expected to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington in the coming days, with reports suggesting Starmer may present a peacekeeping force proposal.
On Saturday, Trump briefly spoke with Polish President Andrzej Duda at the CPAC conservative political conference near Washington. Concerns have been growing over a potential U.S. troop reduction in Europe, but Duda said he was reassured following U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to Poland on Feb. 14.
