Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Hits Indonesia’s Seram Island
A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Seram on Monday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), GFZ reported. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been released.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a hotspot for seismic activity due to tectonic plate movements, and regularly experiences earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
