“Man Arraigned for Alleged Theft of Cassava Tubers Worth N600,000 in Ondo State”

A 48-year-old man, Oyedele Ikulala, was brought before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Thursday, facing charges for allegedly stealing cassava tubers valued at N600,000.

Ikulala, a furniture maker, is charged with two counts of felony and theft. According to the prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on May 10 at a farm located on Okitipupa-Aye Road, Okitipupa.

Orogbemi stated that Ikulala, along with two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly broke into the farm owned by Ola Ajitohan and made away with the cassava tubers. The actions of the accused violate Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

During the court proceedings, Ikulala pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Philip Akinlosetu granted him bail set at N400,000, with a requirement for one surety of the same amount. The surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of tax payment for the past two years.

The case has been adjourned until August 13 for further hearing.
