A 21-year-old man, Ogbonna Samuel, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly assaulting a woman and causing her permanent eye injury.

Samuel, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of assault.

The police prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 6, 2024, along Idiroko Road, Oje-Ore, in Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that Samuel assaulted one Ojopagogo Toyin by throwing a stone at her left eye, which resulted in permanent injury.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Samuel, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

She adjourned the case until May 27 for further hearing.
