A 31-year-old man appeared in a district court on Nov. 21, charged with brutally assaulting a 71-year-old man and causing multiple head injuries and fractures.
The accused, Mohamed Serajudeen Mohamed Yusoff, is facing one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The alleged incident took place on Nov. 19, at Block 151, Serangoon North Avenue 2, shortly before 4 p.m.
According to court documents, Serajudeen allegedly punched and kicked the elderly man in the head multiple times. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention following the attack.
Preliminary investigations by police indicate that the two men did not know each other. Using CCTV and police camera footage, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified and arrested Serajudeen near Hougang Street 91 on Nov. 20.
The case has been adjourned to Nov. 28 for further proceedings.
If found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Serajudeen faces up to 10 years in prison, as well as a potential fine or caning.
