The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Sunday Abidoye, whose lifeless body was discovered in a room at Creestar Hotel, Sagamu, on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the incident was first reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), identified as Oluwole.

Odutola revealed that detectives dispatched to the scene found the deceased’s body placed in a car outside the hotel, as his family was preparing to transport it to the morgue.

The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, residing in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that Abidoye had recently returned from the United States on Saturday. Concerned after failing to reach him by phone, Godday visited the hotel on Monday and discovered his brother’s lifeless body after obtaining a spare key from the hotel manager.

According to Odutola, various drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the hotel room. “The centre of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance,” she noted.

A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, disclosed that he had accompanied Abidoye to purchase nine different medications the day before due to complaints of illness.

The deceased’s remains have been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.

While investigations continue, Odutola stated that the case would be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further examination. She also cautioned against the use of medications without proper medical guidance.
