Man Kills Mother, Brother Days After Prison Release
A tragic incident unfolded in Wilson on Monday, March 31, when a recently released inmate allegedly took the lives of his mother and younger brother, just days after they celebrated his return home.
The suspect, 25-year-old Da’ron Donta Jenkins, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of his mother, 50-year-old Dana Vanessa Jenkins, and his 15-year-old brother, Daryn Cox.
According to the Wilson Police Department, officers responded to a distress call at 5:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of Snowden Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims deceased. Authorities confirmed that Dana Jenkins was the suspect’s mother and Daryn Cox his younger brother.
Dana Jenkins had taken to social media on March 25 to express her joy over her son’s return from prison, writing: “MY BABY HOME!! MY MF BABY!! MY BABY IS HOME!! LORD I THX U!!”
Her posts reflected unwavering love for her son. In a past interaction on social media, Da’ron had expressed feelings of being unloved, to which Dana reassured him of her unconditional love.
Jenkins was arrested and is currently being held at Wilson County Jail without bond. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday, April 1.
The victims were active members of Mount Moriah Community Church, where Bishop Sherman Blandon described them as “joyful souls who could light up any room.” Daryn was a student at Beddingfield High School, and the school has arranged additional counseling support for grieving students and staff.
“Please keep the family in your thoughts, as well as the Beddingfield community, during this difficult time,” a school district spokesperson urged.
The church has announced a special youth service on Wednesday to honor the memory of Dana and Daryn.
“They loved each other. They loved us. We loved them,” said Bishop Blandon. “This loss is devastating, not just for their family but for the entire community.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic killings.
