A 23-year-old man was tragically trampled to death by an elephant after he attempted to take a selfie with the animal in a forest near Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.
The victim, Srikant Satre, and two friends had ventured into the Abapur forest on Thursday morning, October 24, after hearing reports of an elephant sighting.
The group, in the area for cable-laying work, decided to locate the elephant during their downtime. Upon finding it, they attempted to take photos, which led to the elephant charging at them.
Satre was fatally injured, while his two friends managed to escape unharmed. Local authorities have since urged the public to maintain a safe distance from wildlife, stressing the dangers of attempting close encounters with wild animals.
