Manchester City have been eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup following a dramatic 4-3 extra-time defeat to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in the last-16 stage.

The European champions, led by Pep Guardiola, were left stunned after a chaotic match at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, where defensive lapses cost them dearly despite a promising start.

Bernardo Silva gave City the lead just nine minutes into the match, but Al-Hilal roared back in the second half with quick goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom. Erling Haaland drew City level shortly after, sending the game into extra time.

Kalidou Koulibaly put Al-Hilal ahead again early in the added period before Phil Foden’s milestone 100th goal for City made it 3-3. However, Leonardo struck again late in extra time to seal a famous victory for the Saudi Pro League side.

Al-Hilal will face Brazilian club Fluminense in the quarter-finals on Friday. Fluminense advanced after defeating Inter Milan 2-0 earlier on Monday.
