Martha Plimpton Shuts Down Rumors of a Goonies Sequel: ‘It’s Not Real’
Martha Plimpton, who played Stephanie “Stef” Steinbrenner in the beloved 1985 film The Goonies, has denied recent reports claiming a sequel is in development. The rumor, sparked by a report from The Sun on Sept. 6, suggested that Warner Bros. was working on a follow-up to the cult classic.
Plimpton, 53, took to Instagram on Friday, Sept. 13, to set the record straight. “People, there is no Goonies 2 script, no one is ‘attached,’ and Spielberg is not directing. It’s not real,” she clarified in a text-based post.
Instead of focusing on the false sequel rumors, Plimpton urged her followers to pay attention to the upcoming U.S. presidential election, writing, “What IS real is CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION AND VOTE!!!!”
Corey Feldman, who played Clark “Mouth” Devereaux in The Goonies, also echoed Plimpton’s statements. He posted on X on Sept. 10, saying he had no knowledge of a sequel in the works. Despite fans’ hopes, it seems a Goonies sequel remains nothing more than a rumor for now.
