Mass Casualties for North Korean Troops in Russia’s Ukraine War: US Claims

0 2

The United States has alleged significant losses among North Korean troops fighting on Russia’s frontlines in Ukraine. White House spokesperson John Kirby revealed that thousands of North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in the past week, describing their deployment as “human wave” attacks against Ukrainian defenses.

“It is evident that Russian and North Korean military leaders regard these troops as expendable, ordering them on futile assaults,” Kirby said during a press briefing.

The claims follow accusations by South Korea, Ukraine, and the US that North Korea sent thousands of troops to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine, particularly in the Kursk border region.

In related developments, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced it had thwarted a Ukrainian plot to assassinate a senior Russian officer and a pro-Russian blogger. According to the FSB, a Russian citizen retrieved a bomb—equivalent to 1.5 kilograms of TNT—disguised as a portable music speaker, intending to execute the attack on Ukrainian orders.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on China to pressure North Korea to cease military aid to Russia. He emphasized the heavy losses sustained by North Korean forces in Russia’s Kursk region, accusing both Russian and North Korean leaders of sacrificing these troops to protect their own interests.

As tensions escalate, NATO has pledged to increase Baltic Sea patrols, and the US is preparing a $1.25 billion military aid package for Ukraine. Ukrainian forces also reported destroying a drone warehouse in Russia’s Oryol region, reducing the enemy’s capacity for airstrikes.

These developments underline the complex and increasingly international nature of the ongoing conflict, with high-stakes diplomacy, military action, and humanitarian concerns dominating the narrative.
