Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has advised Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to reject offers from Saudi Arabia and instead pursue a Premier League move this summer.
Speaking to Metro, Mikel expressed disappointment over Chelsea’s failed attempt to sign Osimhen last year. While clubs like Galatasaray and Saudi side Al-Hilal are reportedly in pursuit, Mikel believes Osimhen should remain in Europe to fulfill his potential.
“I hope there’s still a Premier League move for him,” Mikel said. “Arsenal and Manchester United still need a striker. Højlund works hard, but I don’t think he’s the one to lead United to trophies. For me, Manchester United might be the right destination.”
Mikel, who spent over a decade at Chelsea, added that moving to Saudi Arabia now would be premature.
“I don’t want to see him in Saudi just yet. He still has so much to offer in Europe. Maybe Arsenal, United, Juventus, or PSG — let’s see how it plays out,” he said.
Osimhen, 25, had been close to joining Chelsea last summer, but the deal collapsed in the final stages. The club has since shifted focus, signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Mikel said, “Everyone knew who the fans wanted. It’s a shame Osimhen didn’t join Chelsea — especially since he supported the club growing up.”
“But the club has gone in a different direction with Delap. Hopefully, it works out. Still, I would’ve loved to see someone come in and deliver immediately — someone proven in big games.”
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, with top European clubs and Middle Eastern sides still circling.
