Minister Urges Nigerians to Suspend Nationwide Protests
The Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, has appealed to Nigerians to suspend the nationwide protests against the current government. He assured citizens that President Bola Tinubu is diligently addressing the country’s challenges.
Audu made this appeal through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji, on Friday in Abuja. He urged protesters to have more patience and trust in President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’
According to Audu, the administration’s strategic plans aim to drive Nigeria towards economic prosperity, improved welfare, enhanced education and health systems, better social amenities, food security, and infrastructural development. Highlighting the achievements of President Tinubu in just over a year in office, Audu assured that Nigerians would see the realization of their expectations of good governance by the end of the president’s first term.
“I appeal to my fellow Nigerians to suspend the nationwide protests and resort to dialogue to address our concerns and expectations from the President Tinubu-led administration,” Audu stated.
He emphasized President Tinubu’s concern for Nigerians, noting the implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage for workers and the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative to reduce transportation costs by at least 70%. Audu also highlighted the disbursement of N50,000 uplift grants to over 100,000 families per state for three months, impacting close to 5 million families nationwide.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, has assured Nigerians that food prices will drop within 180 days due to strategic measures. This includes importing 250,000 metric tonnes of wheat and maize to support small-scale processors and millers.
Audu further mentioned President Tinubu’s directive to redesign the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, attracting $2.5 million for the National Primary Health Care to ensure better healthcare access.
Audu assured that the government is committed to implementing various policies under the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to facilitate a better Nigeria. In the steel sector, ongoing reforms aim to revive steel plants, creating over 500,000 jobs and attracting Foreign Direct Investments to diversify the economy.
The minister also appealed to Nigerians to shun protests following intelligence reports from security agencies about miscreants planning to hijack the protests to cause mayhem and disrupt law and order nationwide.
