Italy Mora, representing Panama in the upcoming Miss Universe competition, has been expelled after allegedly making an unauthorized visit to her boyfriend’s hotel room in Mexico City.
The 19-year-old was set to compete alongside 130 contestants in the event on November 16 but was removed following what organizers termed a “personal error.”
Reports suggest Mora’s dismissal followed an “exhaustive evaluation” by the pageant’s disciplinary commission. Although the Miss Universe organization did not confirm specific details, rumors point to her visit with boyfriend Juan Abadía, who had reportedly traveled to Mexico to support her with food, accommodations, and event attire, including a $7,000 Carolina Herrera dress.
Mora claimed her departure was actually due to a dispute with Miss Universe Panama Director César Anel Rodríguez over event organization. She expressed disappointment at her expulsion, adding, “It’s impacting my reputation, and emotionally, it’s been difficult.”
In a statement, Miss Universe officials affirmed the decision was made with respect for all candidates, prioritizing fairness and transparency. Despite Mora’s exit, Panama will not be sending an alternate contestant.
