The mother of Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student who tragically died under controversial circumstances in November 2021, has passed away.
Family sources confirmed that Mrs. Oromoni succumbed to a blood pressure-related illness in late November, two years after her son’s death.
Sylvester Oromoni Jr., a 12-year-old student, died on November 30, 2021, following allegations of bullying and chemical poisoning by some of his schoolmates. While the family accused Dowen College of negligence, the school maintained that Sylvester sustained injuries during a football game.
The tragedy sparked public outrage, leading to legal battles and coroner inquests. However, in April 2024, a Lagos court ruled against the Oromoni family, stating that Sylvester’s death resulted from sepsis caused by a lung and kidney infection, stemming from an ankle injury. The court exonerated the accused students and the school, citing no evidence of bullying or chemical poisoning.
Mrs. Oromoni’s health reportedly declined following the legal setbacks and public scrutiny surrounding her son’s case. Her passing adds another layer of heartbreak to a family still mourning their loss.
Sylvester Oromoni Jr. was buried on January 27, 2024, after his family kept his remains in the morgue for over two years as part of their protest against the handling of his case.
This marks a poignant chapter in a case that has gripped national attention, leaving questions about justice, accountability, and the toll of unresolved grief.
