Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, has accused an entity in Ukraine of launching a large-scale cyberattack that disrupted his social media platform, X, on Monday, March 10.

In an interview with Fox Business Network, Musk stated, “We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”

The social media platform experienced widespread outages, with users reporting issues as early as 5:30 a.m. ET. Musk later confirmed on X that the platform was targeted by an attack so extensive that he believes it could only be the work of a “coordinated group” or a foreign state. However, he did not provide further details.

The incident occurred amid growing tensions between Kyiv and Washington. Last month, former U.S. President Donald Trump labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and accused him of prolonging the war with Russia. The fallout from their Oval Office meeting led to Zelensky’s expulsion from the White House and the suspension of a proposed minerals deal between the two nations.

Musk has been vocal about his stance on the conflict, previously calling for a ceasefire and warning, “We are sleepwalking into World War III with one foolish decision after another.” In the past, he has also accused Zelensky of promoting a “forever war.”

On Monday, Zelensky was in Saudi Arabia for diplomatic talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. U.S. and Ukrainian officials are expected to meet there to discuss potential steps toward ending the war.

The X platform has since been restored, but the alleged cyberattack raises concerns over cybersecurity threats amid ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
