Mutfwang Celebrates Gowon at 91, Hails Him as Symbol of Peace and Unity
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has congratulated former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), on his 91st birthday anniversary, describing him as a symbol of peace, unity, and exemplary leadership.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Jos by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, the governor praised Gowon’s enduring legacy as a national icon whose leadership helped preserve Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty.
“It is with profound humility and immense joy that I join the global community in celebrating Gen. Yakubu Gowon on his remarkable 91st birthday,” Mutfwang stated. “He is not only a revered father figure and a beacon of peace to millions of Nigerians but also an iconic statesman whose life continues to inspire transformative leadership and national cohesion.”
The governor lauded Gowon’s role during the civil war, noting that his wisdom and patriotism guided the nation through turbulent times. He also highlighted Gowon’s post-war policy of “No Victor, No Vanquished” as a lasting symbol of reconciliation and unity.
Mutfwang further commended the former leader’s Reconciliation, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation (3Rs) programme, which he said played a vital role in rebuilding Nigeria’s socio-economic structure after the war.
He prayed for continued good health, long life, and divine protection for the elder statesman.
