Naeto C’s Wife Nicole Chikwe Opens Up on Body-Shaming, Mental Health Struggles
Nicole Chikwe, wife of Nigerian rapper Naeto C, has revealed the intense body-shaming and harsh criticism she endured when their relationship went public 14 years ago.
Speaking during a podcast interview, Nicole recounted how she was relentlessly mocked online, with some social media users comparing her to animals and claiming she wasn’t attractive or worthy of the music star.
“When our relationship went public, I received a lot of vitriol. The rhetoric was that I wasn’t good enough for everyone’s beloved Naeto C. People said he could do so much better, that I was ugly. It was unrelenting,” she shared.
Nicole explained that the online backlash had a serious impact on her mental health, damaging her self-confidence and leaving her feeling deeply insecure. At the time, she said, there was little awareness about mental health and online bullying.
“It crippled the confidence I always had growing up,” she said. “But I tried to stay strong because I didn’t want Naeto to feel like I couldn’t handle it.”
Despite the difficult period, the couple went on to marry and build a family. Nicole described their union as a form of revalidation, noting how far they’ve come since facing public judgment.
