The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed more than 70 terrorists in airstrikes targeting insurgent hideouts on Nov. 6 at Kwallaram and Arainna Ciki islands in Borno State, according to a statement by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.

The air operations, part of Operation Hadin Kai, aimed to dismantle terrorist strongholds. Maj.-Gen. Buba reported that over 70 extremists were eliminated at Kwallaram, with additional casualties at Arainna Ciki. These airstrikes form part of an intensified nationwide offensive, involving both aerial and ground operations, to dislodge terrorists and insurgents from their strongholds.

In recent operations, troops neutralized 169 terrorists, arrested 641 others, and rescued 181 hostages. They also apprehended 40 individuals linked to oil theft and recovered a cache of 192 weapons and 2,970 rounds of ammunition, including AK-47s, locally made pistols, and RPG bombs.

In the Niger Delta region, the military destroyed 83 illegal refining sites, 50 storage tanks, 42 boats, and other equipment used for crude oil theft, seizing over 914,000 liters of stolen crude oil and large quantities of refined petroleum products.

Maj.-Gen. Buba noted that these sustained offensives have significantly weakened terrorist ranks, leading groups like ISWAP to resort to social media for recruitment. The military has pledged to continue its efforts to eliminate all security threats in the country.
