National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has honoured the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) with an award of excellence for Outstanding Humanitarian Service and sustained support to disaster response operations in Adamawa.
This is contained in a statement by the Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ejodame said the recognition, presented by the NEMA Yola Operations Office to the 153 Base Services Group, Yola, celebrates the Base’s professionalism, community service and partnership in emergency management.
According to him, Head of Operations, NEMA Yola Office, Mr Ladan Ayuba, had described the Base as “a dependable partner with uncommon dedication and selfless commitment” to humanitarian causes.
He quoted the NEMA official as saying that the base had been instrumental in providing medical and logistical support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) since 2014, and played a vital role in rescue and relief operations during the July flood in Yola South Local Government Area.
“In moments of crisis, when lives were at risk and communities displaced, the 153 Base Services Group mobilised personnel, vehicles and medical teams to evacuate victims, deliver aid and provide security support,” Ayuba said.
Receiving the award, the Commander of the 153 Base Services Group, Group Capt. Mu’azu Mohammed-Mu’azu, dedicated the honour to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, for his leadership and vision of a people-centred Air Force.
“This recognition is a testament to the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff and the dedication of every airman and airwoman in our group.
“We remain resolute in protecting lives and supporting communities in their greatest moments of need,” he said.
The commander also appreciated the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, AVM Patrick Obeya, for his mentorship and support.
