The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a 16-year-old domestic worker who was brutally abused by her employer in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 26, 2025, the agency said the teenager was rescued after concerned neighbours alerted authorities. The victim, who hails from Imo State, had been caring for her employer’s three children, including newborn twins and a seven-year-old boy.

According to NAPTIP, the employer allegedly poured hot water on the girl, leaving her with severe burns. Neighbours reportedly rushed her to the hospital before contacting the agency, which immediately intervened.

“The agency has commenced a full investigation into the incident, and all individuals involved in this heinous act will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

NAPTIP condemned the abuse and reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, urging members of the public to report all cases of trafficking, child labour, and domestic abuse.
