Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and other prominent Nigerians have commended the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, for its outstanding contribution to healthcare delivery as the institution marked 25 years of service.

The governor gave the commendation on Wednesday during the centre’s silver jubilee celebration held in Keffi Local Government Area, where stakeholders reviewed the hospital’s achievements and deliberated on future healthcare priorities in Nasarawa State, with a focus on sustainability.

The anniversary also coincided with the 2025 Annual General Meeting and the 125th regular meeting of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs), which centred on strengthening quality healthcare delivery across federal tertiary hospitals nationwide.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Gaza Gwamna, Sule described FMC Keffi as a critical healthcare institution that has, since its establishment in 2000, improved the wellbeing of residents of Nasarawa State, neighbouring states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to prioritising primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare, noting that a healthy population was essential for attracting investment, boosting economic activities and driving sustainable development.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Daju Kachollum, assured the centre of continued federal government support to enhance service delivery and promote medical research.

In a goodwill message, the Keffi Emirate, through a representative of the Emir, Alhaji Shehu Chindo-Yamusa, described FMC Keffi as a beacon of hope, applauding its management and staff for decades of dedicated and compassionate healthcare services to the community.

Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors, Prof. Bassey Emem, also praised the centre’s progress but called for increased community and private-sector support, stressing that government alone could not meet the growing infrastructure and service demands of tertiary hospitals in the country.

Earlier, the Medical Director of FMC Keffi, Dr Yahaya Baba-Adamu, highlighted the institution’s growth over the past 25 years, citing expanded clinical services, accredited postgraduate training programmes, advanced surgical procedures, infrastructure development and improved research capacity despite operational challenges.

He attributed the achievements to the dedication of staff, the support of the Federal Ministry of Health and backing from the presidency, reaffirming the centre’s commitment to strengthening critical care, training health professionals and delivering quality healthcare for present and future generations.
