The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ibaka has apprehended two individuals suspected of smuggling 350kg of fertilizers by speedboat en route to Cameroon.

FOB Commanding Officer, Capt. Uche Aneke, confirmed the arrest on Thursday while handing over the suspects and the seized items to the Nigerian Customs Service. The suspects were intercepted on Tuesday morning at around 8:30 a.m., following an intelligence tip-off about suspicious activities in the area.

“Our intelligence indicated that a speedboat was transporting bags, suspected to contain fertilizers, within the waters under FOB Ibaka’s operational area, headed toward Cameroon,” Aneke explained.

He issued a stern warning to those involved in smuggling or criminal activities in Nigeria’s waters, emphasizing the Navy’s vigilance under the leadership of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff.

Mr. Dada Fagbola, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Akwa Ibom Command, expressed gratitude to the Navy for their continued efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s waterways and assured that further investigations and prosecutions would follow.
