The Sokoto State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has donated food, clothing and essentials to Internally Displaced Persons to mark its 2026 Law Week.
The items were presented on Friday to residents of the Guiwa Low Cost IDPs camp in Sokoto metropolis.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items distributed included foodstuffs, detergents, footwear, mats and clothing.
The exercise was led by the state Chairperson, Mrs Rashidat Mohammed, and the Local Organising Committee Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim.
Mohammed said the donation showed solidarity with the IDPs, noting their plight resulted from persistent security challenges.
“Our effort is to complement government’s commitment and stress the need for greater dedication to improve their living conditions,” she said.
She called for standard IDPs camps with schools, healthcare facilities and other basic amenities.
Mohammed urged Nigerians to support government efforts, adding that protecting life and property was a collective responsibility.
A lawyer and retired Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Dantsoho, said the support aimed to ease hardship among displaced persons.
She urged beneficiaries to remain patient, describing their situation as destiny, and called for fairness in distributing the donated items.
Dantsoho also encouraged them to remain prayerful for lasting peace and unity in the country.
Responding, the camp’s Women Leader, Mrs Lami Umar, thanked the association and pledged fair distribution of the items.
