The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 72-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Christy Ejaro, and several others in separate operations across Delta, Enugu, Kwara, and Lagos States for drug-related offences.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
Ejaro was arrested on June 25 in the Niger CAT area of Warri, Delta State, where operatives found several sachets of skunk already packaged for retail sale.
In Enugu, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport intercepted Chibuzor Emmanuel, a 38-year-old bar attendant based in Maputo, Mozambique, who was found with 17 parcels of methamphetamine weighing 17.5kg and three parcels of cocaine weighing 3.05kg. The illicit substances were concealed in bedsheets inside his luggage. Emmanuel had arrived from Johannesburg, South Africa via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
Another passenger from the same flight, Azu Kpodar, 54, was also arrested after NDLEA operatives found 1.25kg of liquid cocaine hidden inside a plastic container of liquid soap in his luggage. Kpodar, a toy vendor in Sao Paulo, Brazil, claimed he bought the substance while shopping for his wedding in Nigeria.
In Lagos, a 26-year-old Beninese national, Vode Jean-Luck, was apprehended on June 24 at the Seme border while attempting to smuggle 69 balls of skunk, weighing 29.5kg, from Benin Republic into Nigeria.
Meanwhile, in Kwara State, a well-known drug dealer, Bolanle Oladele (also known as Iya Nafi), was arrested on June 25 during a raid on her base in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area. Seized from her were various quantities of skunk, tramadol, and flunitrazepam.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, commended the efforts of operatives across the Delta, Kwara, and Seme Commands for their effective operations. He also praised all officers nationwide for maintaining a strong focus on both drug supply and demand reduction.
