Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted significant quantities of illicit drugs in separate operations across Lagos and Taraba states.
In Lagos, 100 parcels of Canadian Loud, weighing 50kg, were seized at the Tincan seaport. The drugs were concealed in a container along with four imported vehicles from Canada.
The container, cleared from the ESS Libra Bonded Terminal in Ikorodu, was tracked to a warehouse where the drugs were found hidden in a Toyota Sienna. A suspect, Ibrahim Abubakar, has been arrested in connection with the discovery, according to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi.
In Taraba, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Onitsha to Jalingo on Thursday, uncovering large quantities of opioids, including tramadol, rohypnol, and codeine-based syrup, hidden within the vehicle’s body compartments.
Two suspects, Pako Thomas and Emmanuel Anyigor, were taken into custody. Additionally, a third suspect, Chibuzor Okafor, was arrested on Oct. 2 in Wukari with 80 blocks of cannabis weighing 38kg concealed in bags of garri.
In a related operation in Lagos, a woman identified as Bolanle Ajenifuja was arrested on Friday in the Afo-Media area of Ojo with 700 liters of skuchies, a cocktail of local chapman mixed with illicit drugs.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives also raided two cannabis farms in a boundary community between Edo and Ondo states, destroying over 9,966kg of cannabis plants spread across three hectares. Three suspects, Ezekiel Akpele, Elijah Michael, and Goddard John, were apprehended during the operation.
