NDLEA, U.S. DEA Pledge Deeper Cooperation in Ongoing War Against Drug Trafficking
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (U.S.-DEA) have reaffirmed their commitment to intensify collaboration in the global fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
This commitment was made during a meeting in Abuja between NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), and the newly appointed U.S.-DEA Country Attaché to Nigeria, Daphne Morrison.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, Ms. Morrison expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership between the two agencies and praised Mr. Marwa for his continued cooperation.
“I wanted to make this meeting a priority,” Morrison said. “We’re ready to build on our existing partnership and launch joint operations in key focus areas. We’re also planning more training opportunities for NDLEA’s special operations units.”
Marwa welcomed the renewed commitment and acknowledged the valuable support previously extended by DEA, especially in areas of training, equipment supply, and coordinated missions.
“We’ve had excellent relationships with your predecessors, and I’m confident our cooperation will only grow stronger under your leadership,” he said. “While I won’t present a list of requests today, I want to express our deep appreciation for all the support NDLEA has received over the years.”
He also highlighted NDLEA’s recent expansion in workforce and infrastructure, which has contributed to its ongoing success in both reducing drug supply and addressing drug demand.
The meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing joint efforts to combat drug-related crimes across borders.
