The grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela has been arrested alongside four other suspects in connection with a hijacking incident in Johannesburg.
The arrests were made on Wednesday at the Mandela family property in Houghton by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department‘s (JMPD) tactical response unit, working in collaboration with a car-tracking company. Authorities traced a hijacked white Toyota Corolla, linked to an Uber driver’s hijacking earlier that day, to the property.
The suspects include Mandela’s grandson, his partner, and three men who had been staying in a cottage on the premises. During the raid, police uncovered several electronic items believed to be stolen, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Mandela’s grandson and the other suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Friday, where further details about their involvement in the crime will be disclosed.
This incident has drawn significant public attention, with authorities continuing their investigation into the case.
