The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called for deeper coordination among relevant agencies to enhance the effectiveness of road crash management across the country.
Mrs Bintu Aliyu, Head of Operations NEMA in Jos, said this on Thursday, during a collaborative preparedness and simulation for effective road traffic crash management programme in Jos.
Aliyu said that effective road traffic accident management required a multi stakeholder approach as no single agency would effectively combat the challenge alone.
She emphasised that it was salient for response organisations to work together, share best practices and identify areas for improvement for an effective response.
“Our collective efforts will enable us respond promptly, efficiently and effectively to emergencies, there by minimizing harm and most importantly saving lives”, she said
Aliyu said it was salient that they held regular and realistic simulation exercises to test their capabilities, identify critical gaps and enhance their preparedness for real life emergencies.
According to her, to achieve a safer road environment, stakeholders are to take deliberate steps in designating a focal person for emergency response coordination.
She further said that the focal person would also serve as a desk officer to ensure a seamless communication with NEMA and would also share best practices, support capacity building initiatives for response teams and engage in regular simulation exercises for continuous improvement.
Similarly, Mr Olajide Mogaji, Sector Commander , Federal Road Safety Corp( FRSC), Plateau, urged participants to pay attention during the programme and step down the knowledge gained to their colleagues.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that various associations such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Plateau chapter, Nigeria Automobile Technician Association Plateau chapter, were among the participants at the training.
The participants pledged renewed commitment to improving coordination and agreed to develop an action plan to enhance preparedness and response mechanisms nationwide.
