The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey following his performance in Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Manchester United.

Bassey put in a stellar display at Old Trafford, scoring the opening goal before Bruno Fernandes equalized. His club later secured a quarter-final spot after winning 4-3 on penalties. However, the defender became a target of racist comments on social media after the match.

Reacting to the abuse, the NFF issued a statement on its official X account, expressing solidarity with the player.

“The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports Calvin Bassey in the face of these unacceptable actions,” the statement read.

The federation reiterated its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the pitch. “Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.”

Football authorities and anti-racism organizations are expected to take further action as the issue continues to spark reactions from fans and stakeholders in the sport.
