Nicki Minaj Threatens Lawsuit Against Nigerian Influencer Over Age Comment
American rapper Nicki Minaj has threatened legal action against Nigerian social media influencer Dr Penking following a dispute over comments he made about her age on social media.
The controversy began after the influencer shared an old video of the rapper on the platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, accompanied by a caption suggesting that the music star was “already old” and should retire from the music industry.
“Nicki Minaj should understand that she has gotten old and retire,” he wrote in the post.
The message quickly gained traction online and eventually caught the attention of the rapper, who responded directly on the same platform.
Minaj questioned whether the influencer had permission to share the video, which she said was recorded years ago, particularly as it was used in a manner she considered insulting.
She subsequently warned that the influencer had been added to a legal case she is pursuing, citing alleged cyberbullying and copyright infringement.
“Do you have permission to use this video that I filmed years ago to harass me on this or any platform? You’ve just been added to the suit,” the rapper wrote.
Responding in a follow-up post, Dr Penking said he and his team were ready to face any legal challenge.
“Tell Nicki Minaj that myself and my team are ready and eagerly anticipating her papers,” he wrote.
The influencer also defended his comments as an expression of personal opinion, arguing that freedom of speech allowed him to share such views publicly.
“Freedom of speech and expression is supreme in all constitutions in the world and I have the right to express my opinion at all times.
“Is she old? Yes, she is 43. There is nothing harassing about this. It is publicly accessible information.
“Should she retire? I think she should. That’s my personal opinion and I stand by it. You can agree or disagree.
“I will not be bullied or intimidated by Nicki Minaj or any other celebrity,” he added.
The exchange has since sparked debate on social media about freedom of expression, online harassment and the use of copyrighted content on digital platforms.
